Rowe's ambition: to be instructor in snowboarding
Each Wednesday, The Citizen features someone in the food services industry from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks: This week, we spotlight Ryan Rowe of Buffalo Wild Wings.
Q. What is the one food you cannot live without? Why?
A. Pizza, because it's good and cheap.
Q. Fill in the blank. People would be surprised to know that even though I work in the food industry, when I am at home in the kitchen, I _____.
A. Don't cook.
Q. What do you like most about living and working in the Finger Lakes region?
A. The changing of the seasons, that it has a lot of business for the food service industry, and it has good scenery.
Q. If you were given $1 million to open your own restaurant or bar, describe the bar or restaurant and what type of food you would serve.
A. A sports bar. It would serve a mixed variety of food from around the world.
Q. Where would it be located?
A. In northern California (which is where Ryan wants to live someday.)
Q. On the day of your restaurant/bar's grand opening, if you could select anyone in the world to be your first three guests, who would they be?
A. My parents and my managers, so I can show how the food is.
Q. Describe your most embarrassing moment while working on the job.
A. “I dropped a whole bag of chicken on the floor in front of the manager.”
Q. What is your favorite junk food?
A. Ice cream
Q. What have you learned are the top three ways to be a good cook/run a successful food business?
A. One, make the customers happy. Two, have quality food. And three, you have to have a good population to back it.
Q. If you weren't working in the food business what would you like to be doing?
A. “I thought I'd never be working in a food place, I've always been working on the farm. But I'd like to be a snow boarding instructor during the winter.”
Q. Ugh. What's the one food which you absolutely can't stomach? Why?
A. Liver.
