It's a sizable wish list. From making the landfill more profitable to working on a new city slogan, city councilors Thursday discussed plans for the new year. “What I had hoped we could do tonight is maybe just listen to each other in terms of ideas we had,” said Councilor Melina Carnicelli. The major point of agreement between the councilors is that next year something needs to be done about the city's landfill. It has been steadily losing money because of tough competition and heavy debt from recent construction. “A whole lot of action and energy needs to go to turning the landfill into a profit enterprise,” Carnicelli said.

The City Council tonight is expected to revisit a proposal to spend $10,000 to control feral cats, crows and other nuisance animals. Councilor David Dempsey wants to authorize spending up to $10,000 on ways to control the city's crows and feral cat populations and to study other animal- control problems. Two weeks ago, he voted against spending the entire $10,000 on just the feral cat problem. “I just think it should be for all our animal problems,” he said.
