Subway manager hooked on Oreos
Each Wednesday, The Citizen features someone in the food services industry from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks: This week, we spotlight Christopher Kilbourne, manager of Subway in Elbridge.
Q. What is the one food you cannot live without? Why?
A. Chicken wings, because you can put just about any sauce on them and they taste great.
Q. Fill in the blank. People would be surprised to know that even though I work in the food industry, when I am at home in the kitchen, I ________.
A. Read from recipe cards for a lot of things.
Q. What do you like most about living and working in the Finger Lakes region?
A. The people, because they are polite, and give the area a family feeling.
Q. If you were given $1 million to open your own restaurant or bar, describe the bar or restaurant and what type of food you would serve.
A. A family-style Italian restaurant.
Q. Where would it be located?
A. On Erie Boulevard in Syracuse, because of all the business there.
Q. On the day of your restaurant/bar's grand opening, if you could select anyone in the world to be your first three guests, who would they be?
A. My mother, Emeril Lagasse and Mario Batali.
Q. What is your favorite junk food?
A. Oreos. I can't get enough of them. I have to have a pack in the house.
Q. What have you learned are the top three ways to run a successful food business?
A. You have to have good customer service. And you have to be fast, fair and consistent, my own personal motto.
Q. If you weren't working in the food business what would you like to be doing?
A. Welding, carpentry or something working with my hands.
Q. Ughh. What's the one food which you absolutely can't stomach? Why?
A. Mayonnaise. I can't even stand a drop of it on my sandwich, which makes it kind of odd since I work in Subway with sandwiches.
