They were driving on Route 38 in Conquest when they saw the pickup flip off the road. Without hesitation, the two men pulled their cars to the side of the road and rushed to pull the driver and his son from the truck just moments before it burst into flames. Tuesday, Ken Bogart and Paul Fowler were honored for their quick action and unselfish rescue on Saturday, Oct. 18. “It's a very important thing when people perform a lifesaving action the way they did,” said County Sheriff Peter Pinckney. “There's no question they saved these people's lives by risking their lives and putting their lives in danger.”

Cayuga County legislators tonight will agree to tell the prospective buyer of 1,400 acres of county-owned land on Lake Ontario that it's time to put up or shut up. Legislators will vote on giving Cayuga Park LLC of Cobleskill until February to close on a $2 million deal that would transfer the property, next to the Sterling Nature Center, to Cayuga Park. Edward Young, the Bath businessman who is Cayuga Park's principal partner, has plans to develop the land into, among other things, an RV park, a hotel, a restaurant and related businesses, such as a convenience store. The county has waited two years to close on the sale, and lawmakers say that's too long.
