I will start out on a sad note.
Conquest has lost another good friend. Angelo A. Maddalena lost his fight with cancer Nov. 24. For those who did not know Angelo, he has done so much for not only our community but other communities as well.
I met Angelo and his wife, Gerri, back in my early days as supervisor. Every time I would run into Ang, he would be just beaming with pride about our community and what they have accomplished at the park or how much money had been raised at a fundraiser.
He always had that big smile. But as I listened to the Rev. Eloo at his service held in Port Bryon Dec. 3, I did not realize until then that Ang was like this with everything he did. Not just for the Conquest Recreation field but for his church, Meals on Wheels, for his friends and for his family.
Conquest will miss him very much and our hearts go out to his wife, Gerri, and her family.
The election is over and we welcome new Town Clerk Kelly Clark, Highway Supervisor Mark Shafer and Town Board member Janice Moore to our team this coming January.
At the same time I would like to thank outgoing town board member Barb Decker for her years of service to our community. Barb was a town justice for 15 years and a town board member for the past four years. Thank you Barb for your years of service. Conquest also thanks you.
If you haven't noticed, the new veterans memorial honor role is done, and it looks great. I have been getting calls on who is or isn't on the monument. The current rule is you must have lived in the town of Conquest when you entered the service to have your name be on the honor role.
I have also been getting calls about names that shouldn't be on it that are, and we are investigating and trying to correct mistakes, as we know them. Again we would like to thank Dale and Kathy Powell for a job well done.
Charles Knapp is the town of Conquest supervisor.
