Dec. 5 was International Volunteer Day, so I want to recognize all the hard work of our Girl Scout volunteers in Cayuga County, many of whom may go uncounted.
These women and men include troop leaders that meet with girls on a regular basis, providing the girl/adult partnership that helps girls grow into leaders.
There are volunteer product sale managers, administrative managers, camp and special event coordinators, program presenters, public relations coordinators and various task groups and board of directors members.
There are of course parents who help drive girls to activities, go camping with them, help them set goals for the Girl Scout Cookie Program and support their daughters every day in Girl Scouting and other endeavors.
A big thank you and happy holidays to all these wonderful adults that make Girl Scouting available in our community.
If you are interested in learning more about how to change a life of a girl, contact the Girl Scouts-Seven Lakes Council at 539-5085.
Whether you have an hour a day or a couple hours a year, there is a place for you to make a difference.
With the holiday season upon us, Girl Scouts are busier than ever helping others in their communities enjoy the holiday season.
In Cato, Girl Scouts will be caroling from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in the village.
They will include a stop at the American Legion for hot cocoa and cookies and a visit with Santa.
By the time you read this, Girl Scouts will have caroled through the streets of Moravia on Monday, Dec. 10, also followed by hot cocoa at the Moravia Firehouse.
Several troops are collecting perishables for the local food pantries and supplies for soldiers.
The Girl Scouts would like to thank everyone that purchased Girl Scout cookies this fall, both for your own enjoyment and those you may have purchased for soldiers overseas.
Proceeds from the program will fund activities throughout the year.
Have a safe, happy holiday season.
