Sennett residents approved the purchase of two new fire trucks and equipment totaling $984,000 during Tuesday night's vote at the Sennett Fire Department.
Despite rainy weather, 196 registered voters turned out.
The proposition for a $430,000 rescue pumper truck for station No. 2, a $383,000 pumper truck for station No.1, and $162,000 in equipment to outfit both of the new trucks passed, 108-87.
On a separate ballot, William Feocco was elected fire commissioner for a five-year term. One of five fire commissioners on the Sennett Fire Board, Feocco will assume office in January. He received 129 of the 196 votes cast.
Reserve funds of $200,000 are earmarked in the 2008 budget for the downpayment on a lease-to-buy contract over a maximum of 10 years. No immediate tax increase will result, although each year's budget will include funding for the contract.
Payments begin one year from the date the contract is signed with Pierce Fire Equipment Co., a subsidiary of Oshkosh.
The fire department expects to have the new trucks up and running some time in the fall, according to John Holmes, chairman of the department's truck committee.
The Sennett Board of Fire Commissioners will discuss the next step at their meeting Thursday.
