Barn cats can have a big impact on rodent control

Tuesday, December 11, 2007 9:25 AM EST

On behalf of the Animal Resource Center, thank you to those special people who caught feral cats and brought them to be spayed and neutered, and to the veterinarians who work with feral cats.
And a very special thank you to those caring individuals who took these feral cats into their barns and gave them a home.

These animals have difficult lives struggling for survival in the cold weather, searching for scraps of food in the back of restaurants or supermarkets, and from kind people who feed them.

Barn cats are an enormous help with rodent control.

Rodents will wreak havoc in barns by contaminating grain, destroying insulation, electrical wiring, bedding and leather.

Having cats in the barn is the natural way to keep the population down.

The ARC is still seeking good barns for the Adopt-a-Barn-Cat program.

These cats are healthy and have been spayed and neutered and have had their vaccinations.

If you have a barn or outside building that would be suitable, please think about the benefit of taking one or two cats and give us a call.

" Karl----you haven't interjected yet. I love feral cats. They kill rats, and bats. They leave the carcas on the mat--at my door---where I beg them for some more. "
