Calendar features seniors' artwork
Art is a powerful medium of expression, especially for the aging. Thirteen artists who happen to be residents of New York state nursing homes, including Corrine Hemen, 81, or Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus, will be featured in a new 2008 calendar, “Art From the Heart.”
The third annual calendar is the result of an art contest launched in 2004 by the New York State Health Facilities Association and the Foundation for Quality Care, Inc. Residents of nearly 250 NYSHFA member long-term care facilities around the state were invited to submit artwork.
Proceeds from the calendar will help improve the quality of life for long-term care residents at facilities across the state. The 2008 calendar can be purchased for $12 by calling NYSHFA at (518)
482-4800 or at www.nyshfa.org. The Web site also includes a gallery of the artwork featured in the calendar.
