Vote for Union Springs historic stone school

On Dec. 11, the residents of the Union Springs school district will have the opportunity to vote yes to restoring their historic stone school into usable classroom space. Linda Rice, superintendent of schools, the district's Administrative staff, and the board of education are to be commended for their diligence and success in securing state aid which will fund all but $20,520 of the renovation costs.

In its current state, the building has been condemned and either must be torn down or restored. As a result of the committed state aid, the cost of restoration is significantly less to the taxpayers and will be spread over a 16 year period. Not only will the students be provided with a technology/communication center, but we will also have the added bonus of restoring a significant historic structure in the Union Springs community.

I urge all residents of the Union Springs district to fully understand the facts of the choices being presented to them. A yes vote is the most financially responsible choice and clearly a win-win for our community.
