The Smith Opera House in Geneva will host performances of “The Nutracker” this weekend.
One of the greatest classical ballets, “The Nutcracker” is a perennial Chrismas classic, packed with magical moments, all to the sounds of one of Peter Illiych Tchaikovsky's most famously tuneful scores. When young Clara's favorite Christmas present - a nutcracker doll - comes to life, she is drawn into magical adventures that lead from a battle with the Mouse King to the Kingdom of Sweets.
Tchaikovsky composed the fairy tale ballet in 1891 and based it on “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” a story by E.T.A. Hoffman. The work has since been performed countless times across the Western world.
