Hits & Misses
HIT: Yes, a hit, to the heavy dose of winter weather the area received this week. OK, it made driving hazardous, and several people banged up their cars. Yes, it made everyday life a little tougher.
But through the eyes of a young child, the snow day on Tuesday was a chance to bundle up and go outside and play in the snow.
Driving around, seeing trees and houses frosted in new snow was a Christmas card come to life.
So, maybe it was a pain in the neck, but the first big snowfall of the season was also a reminder of what's good about winter.
MISS: To the accidental death of a man after he ingested a household cleaner on a Seneca County ARC bus in October.
The program does a great job helping people with special needs and this is the first fatality of its kind in recent memory. The man's parents had no complaints about their son's treatment.
An investigation showed the agency needs to change the way it stores cleaning solutions on its buses. Give the agency credit for being open and honest about the incident.
HIT: To the recent performance of the American Boychoir at St. Mary's Church and to the future performances of local-based choirs and school concerts.
Music and singing as an important part of what makes Christmas such a special time. St. Mary's has formed a cultural arts committee to help organize more events like this one.
HIT: To the support being shown a Jordan-Elbridge teacher whose wife was critically injured in an October car accident.
Faculty, staff, students and local families packed a dinner held at the school this week as a fundraiser for the family.
The first-year teacher and coach said the support of the school community “has been amazing” as his wife continues to recover from her injuries.
The Jordan-Elbridge school community is a great example of what “community” is all about.
