PORT BYRON - Brittany Westover has idolized Disney Channel's Miley Stewart and her alter-ego Hannah Montana for more than a year, and now she'll be able to see the actress/singer Miley Cyrus in person.
Westover, 9, of Conquest, won two tickets to see Hannah Montana in concert Dec. 16 in Rochester, and she couldn't be happier.
“It's exciting because you don't get to see her every day,” said the fourth-grader from A. A. Gates Elementary School. “It's exciting because she's a pop star.”
She's going to the concert with her aunt, Heather Westover-Petruzzi, who also shares an affinity towards the Disney Channel TV show that has grabbed the attention of children and adults alike.
“Having young children, I'm a child that hasn't grown up herself,” said Westover-Petruzzi, 36, of Port Byron.
Westover won the tickets from a raffle through Warm The Children, a nonprofit organization sponsored by The Citizen that raises money to purchase winter clothes for children in need.
Raffle tickets sold for $3 from Nov. 19 until Nov. 30 with the drawing held the evening of Nov. 30. MC Townsend
Construction of Montezuma donated the concert tickets; $555 was collected from the fundraiser.
Three tickets were purchased for the Westover family - one for Brittany, one for her sister Erika and one for her. Even though she was competing against other Hannah Montana fans eager for their chance to see the star, Westover said she had a “funny feeling” that her raffle ticket would be pulled.
And now that it has, she will experience her first ever concert, and will do it in style. She and Westover-Petruzzi will be going all-out, wearing Hannah Montana blonde wigs, buying posters and bringing their Hannah Montana dolls with the hopes of getting autographs.
“I want to have a really good time,” Westover said. “It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Donations can be sent to Warm The Children at The Citizen, 25 Dill St., Auburn, NY 13021.
