AUBURN -- Crews have wrapped up work on East Genesee Street for the season ahead of target and in good shape, engineers say.
Gregory Fehrman, manager of construction services for C & S Engineers, presented a glowing report of the East Genesee Street rehabilitation project thus far during the Auburn City Council meeting Thursday. The rebuilding project runs from Fulton Street to the eastern city line. The job is expected to finish next September.
Residents can expect to see crews tackling the remaining 30 percent of road work after the ground thaws in the spring.
This includes work in the Hoopes Park area and eastward to the Sennett border. Meanwhile, the rest of the road is lacking the top coat, which project leaders want to put on at one time to limit the number of seams.
What drivers will continue to travel over likely will last through the winter with no issues, Fehrman said. Contractor Rizzo Construction is responsible the maintenance throughout the hiatus, he added.
They expected workers to reach the half-way point before pulling out as winter weather made work impossible. Instead, they reached 70 percent completion, where Fehrman estimated they would be in May. He attributes that to a good contractor.
