Two Cents

My wife and I took a tour around the area of the proposed pig farm in Montezuma, hoping to see what all the stink is about. After seeing the area, we believe a pig farm would be a big improvement.
Normal people, the 99 percent straight people in the U.S., are incensed that more attention is paid by the liberal media to AIDS Day than it is to Pearl Harbor Day or VJ Day.

How convenient for Ray Lockwood and his gang to get Roger Mills in there: The yes man, the yes man, the yes man.

Americans are disgusted with the Clintons because of their big hostage situation in New Hampshire, just to make Hillary another victim.

The American Congress is treating the American people and armed forces in the most divisive way in history. They are a true disgrace to our founding fathers.

When a person does not use or wear their safety belts, that is their problem. But when they are dialing on the phone or using the phone, it becomes my problem and everybody else's problem.

I would like to know how Congress can pass laws preventing children from saying a prayer or having a priest or minister saying a “God bless you” all when at the same time they can use taxpayers dollars to hire a priest or minister to say how great and “God bless” when one of them has died? God help America.

Never mind speeders on Grant Avenue, try driving on North Street between Seymour Street and the city limits. The speed limit must have changed to 45 mph and the no right on red sign at Standart Avenue must be written in a different language because no one understands it.

Leave it to the scientific illiterate right-wingers to cite the wrong planet in an attempt to bolster their obtuse argument against global warming. Sorry, Mars isn't the correct choice, but keep guessing: there are six other planets to choose from.

Whoever flew the flags from the top of the pines on Orchard Street, we love it, but, can the American flag be replaced? There is not much of it left.

Just would like to remind fellow readers to watch for their STAR rebates in the mail and not to forget about them. I have just become aware that ours was stolen out of our mailbox and cashed by our neighbor.

At this time of year I always have fond memories of Auburn in the late '40s and early '50s when downtown Auburn was such a bustling happy place and Genesee street was filled with Christmas shoppers. Let's hope that the new administration in Auburn will bring some real progress.

Every single person can make this a better world to live in. If you seriously want to help, just stop being so depressing.

If a man doesn't live up to his marriage vows, two out of three times, what makes the voters think he will live up to the Constitution and not close all gun manufacturers and make civilians' guns illegal?

We have departments run by incompetent people. What the mayor needs to do is meet with the city manager with the department heads twice a week, like Giuliani does, and see that any problem in any department is resolved within the next two meetings.

The biggest reason there are so many burglaries and violent crimes in Auburn is because of the liberal Democrat judges that give every Democrat criminal a slap on the wrist for whatever they do. It's too bad we don't have judges like in the past, like Peter Corning, Andy Fusco or John Naskowicz, that punished criminals and worked for the taxpayers, not for the Democrat Party.

Jeez, us smokers can't even smoke outside anymore. Maybe we should all go back inside to smoke.

I read The Citizen on Sunday, Nov. 25 about the rich people in the Two Cents column. All of us know someone who needs extra help around the holidays so why doesn't everyone try to help their neighbor so we can all enjoy the real reason for Christmas, the caring and love Christ brought to us.

Ten percent of tax-paying Americans pay 90 percent of the taxes, so maybe you should lobby for a flat tax so everybody pays their fair share on all earned and, of course, free money.

To all the complainers about the speeders on Grant Avenue and the Arterial, here's a question: Ever follow a cop on Grant Avenue and the Arterial? They're going just as fast - 40 to 45.

" I want to state with absolute honesty that I have not "called in" a "Two Cents" comment in over two months. But the local Conservative/NRA nutcases who are retired, bored, and have nothing to do all day but watch Faux News and fume all day obviously have calluses on their dialing fingers.... "

" I'm not sure I believe all the comments that are offered above in the Two Cents column come from independent readers not affiliated with The Citizen, but whatsoever their origin, The Citizen editors purposely select comments they think will get a rise out of people. I try to control myself and not just jerk my knee when I read the ones which are so obviously just there to get one's goat. "

" I can operate my cell phone and drive my car just fine. I am careful and pay attention to what I do. I have seen dopes drinking coffee and tuning their radio that are not paying attention to their driving and are much more of a hazard than me. Whatever you do in your car that makes you drive erratically should make you subject to arrest. And if you operate safely with a cell phone it should be legal. "

" jmw, anyone who reads the Two Cents comments with any regularity can tell you that all the comments are left by the same two or three people - all of whom are obviously on heavy medication. The Citizen would do well to limit the comments to their website (as do the vast majority of respectable newspapers with pea(nut) gallery forums) instead of also putting them in print, but I guess they have their reasons. I personally think it's an embarassment to the newspaper and the journalists that strive to live up to a certain level of professionalism. "

" Please tell me that the "Two Cents" comments above are not real. People cannot be as myopic, misanthropic and ignorant as these comments demonstrate. Some are really priceless, such as the one in which someone believes Congress passed a law to prevent children from praying in school. Let's rewrite history! And there's another who claims 99 percent of the population is heterosexual, "normal" and incensed. I'd like to know the statistical model for that sample of the population. Still another apparently believes Rudy Giuliani is still mayor of NYC. Thanks to all of you, I don't need to spend money for Netflix or cable fees. You provide enough entertainment for free! "

" Sorry but 99% of the US is not straight! Where the heck did that come from? Get a grip on reality and suck it up. There are people of all races, religions, and upbringings who have been bold enough to admit they won't conform to some idiots view of who they should be or what they should act like...male or female! Step back and take a good look around! "

" Great! The heat from our planet is getting so hot that it's radiating out to Mars and melting the ice caps there too! Global warming IS a reality! "

" Things that are bugging me: Political ads are still up long after Election Day. Although it's against the law people behind the wheel are still more interested in their cell phones than driving carefully. Although it's against the law job applicants are still rejected because of age. There's still a serious need for more local jobs for regular folks. and how about those Gas and Food prices - are they high enough yet? "

" "Sorry, Mars isn't the correct choice, but keep guessing: there are six other planets to choose from." So I guess National Geographic is a scientifically illiterate right-wing magazine then, because that's where I read that the surface of Mars is warming up. Scientists on both sides of the earth's global warming debate agree on that fact. My rule of thumb is, before I get all sanctimonious and arrogant and paint a whole group of people with the same brush, I make absolutely sure I know what I'm talking about. It certainly helps me avoid embarrassing myself by saying something that isn't correct. "

" "scientific illiterate"? Maybe you are "grammer illiterate". BTW, in 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row. I don't recall...is there a bunch of GOPers driving their Hummers? Or evil oil companies pumping pollution into the atmosphere? Long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars, hence it is getting warmer. And guess what, Mars and Earth have experienced periodic ice ages throughout their histories so it will eventually get colder. "

" OK here we go: FIRST--Pearl Harbor day and VJ day deal with things that are over and done with; AIDs is killing people right now; therefore it's much more relevant--maybe we should celebrate the Battle of Gettysburg as well?! SECOND--I'm not disgusted with the CLintons, and nobody else I know is; what we ARE disgusted with is the INNOCENT VICTIMS of Bush's war-for-profit and the fact that idiots who post stuff like this AREN'T! THIRD---Bush lived up to his marriage vows; meanwhile he's shredded the Constitution, and committed untold crimes against the American people and the world. Bob, get back on your meds, please? "
