Pitt plans to build homes in New Orleans
Brad Pitt expects the foundations to be built for at least 150 eco-friendly homes in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward by the end of next summer.
“I'm hoping we can expand here and expand over into the rest of New Orleans,” the 43-year-old actor said Monday morning in an interview on NBC's “Today” show as he walked through the devastated neighborhood.
The initiative, called Make It Right, is Pitt's latest effort to help the area recover from Hurricane Katrina. Pitt has also worked with the environmental organization Global Green USA to build five single-family homes and an 18-unit apartment complex and community center; earlier this year, he and Angelina Jolie purchased a mansion in the city's French Quarter for $3.5 million.
Pitt has pledged $5 million of his own money toward the project and - calling himself “not much of a salesman” - was campaigning for more donations for the cause.
“I mean, this is really an adopt-a-house campaign,” he said.
“I'm asking for foundations, for high net-worth individuals, for church groups, for corporations to come in and adopt a house - basically, $150,000 will get a family back in their home.”
Katherine Heigl talks about her ‘Grey's' affair
Katherine Heigl is still adjusting to the change in her “Grey's Anatomy” character, Dr. Izzie Stevens.
As “Grey's” watchers know, Izzie has been having an open affair with her married best friend, Dr. George O'Malley, causing a world of pain for his surgeon-wife, Callie.
“That was a kind of a big change for Izzie, wasn't it, after she was so up on her moral high ground,” the 29-year-old actress says in Vanity Fair's upcoming January issue. “They really hurt somebody, and they didn't seem to be taking a lot of responsibility for it. I have a really hard time with that kind of thing. I'm maybe a little too black-and-white about it.”
Heigl, who won an Emmy for her role in September, says she doesn't “really know Izzie very well right now. ... I'm trying to figure her out and keep her real.”
Akon pleads not guilty in fan-tossing case
Akon pleaded not guilty Monday to criminal charges filed after he tossed a 15-year-old boy off the stage at a concert earlier this year.
The 34-year-old hip-hop star was released on his own recognizance following his brief court appearance in Fishkill. He was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree harassment.
Another fan, Abby Rosa, said she suffered a concussion when a teenage boy Akon threw off the stage fell on her during the June 3 concert at the local minor league baseball stadium.
The case was adjourned until January.
