Genealogy stories help family trace its roots

Saturday, December 1, 2007 11:42 PM EST

Once again, your paper provided me with wonderful information about the ancestors of Cayuga County and my German immigrant ancestors.
I wasn't sure if the Hirsh family came from Hamburg, Germany, or if they came through the Port of Hamburg. My grandfather died when I was 8 years old, so my memory is not very clear.

As children, my siblings and myself were raised up on stories of these wonderful German immigrants and their hard-working ethics.

My dad would often drive us around Cato, Lysander and Ira and talk about these wonderful people in his childhood.

Please keep up with this fascinating column. I am keeping these articles with my genealogy.
