Auburn police arrested a city man for allegedly growing marijuana in his home.
Police said they were called to 21 Lewis St. at about 6 p.m. Friday because a neighbor reported an alarm sounding there.

When they entered through an unlocked door, police discovered a closet being used to grow about 20 marijuana plants.

They also found some illegal fireworks, police said.

The resident, Caleb Hudgins, 19 returned home while police were there.

He was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, arraigned and sent to Cayuga County Jail.

" They entered through an unlocked door and discovered a closet used for growing weed. Then the cop goes off here with this attitude which seems very defensive and abusive. I will say one thing COPS are NOT legal experts. But I wonder what crap they will come up with for probable cause to go into the closet. I will say that once back in good ole Auburn I had police come in and help me with a back injury, getting me help and all. Those officers did not go snooping around withoug a search warrant like these officers seem to have. If there was imminent danger of fire to go into the closet? Were firefighting experts dispatched. Start opening doors in a fire you could kill yourself and expose a lot more property to danger. REALLY LOOKS FISHY but it was 20 plants. They'll probably weigh the dirt too to get a felony and it's off to the kangaroo court. "

" Sounds to me like the police had a legitimate reason to enter the apartment......the alarm that was ringing.....therefore, search was legal! "

" No legitimate reason to enter the premises sounds like an illegal search to me, piggy, no matter how you spell it. "

" Hey Raywa9, what police academy did you graduate from? By the looks of your spelling, I doubt you even made it out of elementary school!!! I love you Auburnians who think you're legal experts!!! Just because the subject wasnt home, that is your grounds to think it was an illegal search, right? Listen, before you write in again with your dazzling legal expertise, why dont you ask someone who knows first!!! And YES, I am a cop!!! Just not in Auburn!!!! "
