Bailey is a friendly guy who enjoys going for walks
Each Sunday, The Citizen features a pet which is available for adoption.

This week, we spotlight Bailey from the Finger Lakes SPCA.

Q. Who is your best friend?

A. There is a really nice pitbull here. His name is Mac. He has been showing me the ropes and teaching me how to get extra treats. He is my best friend.

Q. Do you know any special tricks?

A. I do. I am a great escape artist, which has only gotten me into big trouble so far.

Q. Do you get along with other animals?

A. Oh yes. I am part Golden Retriever, thus I get along with most anything - even cats.

Q. Who do you prefer, adults or children?

A. I love everyone.

Q. How often do you like to be groomed?

A. I love to be brushed and the occasional bath will do. But really, it's not a question of liking it or not. It's quite necessary in order to keep me healthy, neat, clean and of course, handsome.

Q. When you go to your new home, what is the first thing you want to do?

A. I want to make sure there is a safely fenced yard or at least a long tie-out so that I will be safe and secure and cannot run away.

Q. If you could visit any place in the world, where would that be?

A. You know, I really don't want to go anyplace right now. I've done enough traveling for a while...

Q. Do you have any advice for The Citizen's readers?

A. Yes. You will be doing your pet and yourself a favor if you all get trained together. You won't be sorry.

Bailey

Age: Guestimating 2-3 years

Breed: Golden Retriever mix

Comments from the SPCA: Bailey came to the shelter at the insistence of the dog control officer. He was reluctant at first, but it was the best offer he'd had in a long time so he finally accepted.

Bailey is a young adult male and a wonderfully friendly guy. He is playful, loves people and really likes to go for walks - on a leash. It appears that he has never had any training, and Bailey's one character flaw is that he loves to run, and run and run - and won't come back on his own. He's in counseling for that at the moment! Shelter staff feel that he will require basic obedience training.

Bailey has been tested for heartworm disease and he is negative. He is up to date on shots, has been vaccinated against kennel cough, been flea and worm treated and he has been microchipped. Bailey is not yet neutered, but he will be soon. The current adoption donation for Bailey is $156, which includes testing/treatments, vaccinations, mandatory microchipping, licensing and a $50 refundable neuter deposit.
