Auburn's Forrest will play in Syracuse
Auburn native JD Forrest will be playing in Syracuse when the Albany River Rats play against the Crunch in a minor league hockey game at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Forrest played his first three games with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League on Nov. 23, 24 and 25. The defender recorded an assist against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday.

After finishing a strong collegiate career at Boston College, Forrest completed two seasons in SM-Liiga, the top professional hockey league in Finland, where he played for Assat Pori in the 2005-06 season, ranking third among the team's defensemen in scoring with 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 43 regular season games as well as notching four assists in 14 playoff contests. Unfortunately, Forrest sat out the entire 2006-07 season with an injury suffered in a River Rats preseason game.

After Saturday, there will be two chances to see Forrest play locally when Albany returns to Syracuse on Dec. 21 as well as in Rochester on Feb. 20.

D-days hot stove announce charities

The charities for the 2008 Auburn Doubledays Hot Stove Dinner and Silent Auction will be the Leo A. Pinckney Scholarship Fund, Hillside Children's Center, Neighborhood House and Sacred Heart Church's support of a school in the Dominican Republic.

The Leo Pinckney Scholarship Fund was created in the name of former Doubledays President, Leo Pinckney. The scholarship is presented annually to a local high school student and provides $500 a semester. The scholarship has been given out for the last 24 years.

Hillside Children's Center is located in Auburn and is a member of the Hillside Family of Agencies. Hillside is the leading provider in child welfare, mental health, youth development, developmental disabilities, juvenile justice and special education services to youth and families in Central New York.

Finally, the Doubledays will be supporting Sacred Heart Church's trip to Don Juan in the Dominican Republic, where they will lend support to the local school. The schools 288 students had little to no supplies when Sacred Heart took their first trip in the summer of 2006. In the last two years, the church has helped to paint the school and provided supplies and clothing to the children.

In the four years that the Doubledays have held this event, $11,000 have gone to local charities including the United Way, Auburn Little League and Matthew House.

The Hot Stove Dinner will take place on Feb. 2 at the Springside Inn.
