A California-based lender purchased the property that once housed Kalet Home for Adults after a foreclosure auction Monday.
According to Patrick Carbonaro, who acted as referee, no other bidders showed up to the auction, which took place at 10:30 a.m. on the steps of the Cayuga County courthouse.
Blackburne and Brown Mortgage Fund, the lender that filed a foreclosure judgment against McCarthy Family Care LLC in October, purchased the property for $250,000, Carbonaro said.
The foreclosure judgment stated that an amount of $399,643.06 was left on the mortgage. That does not include what could be up to $55,000 in back taxes owed on the property.
The former Kalet Home was closed in March after the state health department reported negligent care, poor sanitary conditions and insufficient heating.
David and Diane Kalet ran the facility for 30 years before David Kalet passed the home on to Lisa and Rory McCarthy without state health department approval in December 2005, according to the closure order. The facility's name was then changed to Southside Home for Adults.
Since its closure, the building has stood vacant and in disrepair on one of the busiest roads into the city.
