Marlo Thomas appeals for holiday donations
Marlo Thomas wants holiday shoppers to set aside a little of the money they're spending on holiday shopping and donate it to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by her father, Danny Thomas.

“So many moms and dads come up to me and say that their child wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for St. Jude. Not just because of the research that we're doing there, but because they couldn't have afforded it,” Thomas said in a segment recorded for “This Week” on ABC and aired on Sunday.

“When people go out shopping, they should look for the green magnifying glass. It signifies that we never stop looking for cures. And when the associate at the store says, ‘Would you like to add something for the kids at St. Jude?', add something. Add $1, add $2. Add whatever you can afford,” she said.

Thomas, 67, is married to Phil Donahue. She starred in the 1960s TV series “That Girl” and had a recurring role on “Friends.”

Miley Cyrus celebrates her 15th birthday

Miley Cyrus celebrated turning 15 with more than 15,000 hometown friends, who serenaded her with “Happy Birthday” toward the end of her concert, complete with pyrotechnic displays and a cake delivered onstage.

“I'll tell you guys that my main wish when my parents asked me, ‘Miley, what do you want for your 15th birthday?', the only thing that I had to say was, ‘I want to be here at home with Nashville and all of you guys,”' the star of the hit Disney TV show “Hannah Montana” told the crowd, according to People.com.

The “Best of Both Worlds” show Friday was sold out.

“The reason that I do what I do is for all of you guys,” she said. “Anyone from a small town can go out there and live their dream, and so to be here with you guys tonight on my birthday is amazing.”

For the encore, her dad, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, came out with an acoustic guitar to sing their signature duet, “Ready, Set, Don't Go,” and included her sister Brandi Glenn Cyrus on backup guitar.

“I'd like to bring out my best friend - that just about says it all - my daddy,” Miley announced.

When the song ended, Billy Ray hugged Miley, telling her, “Happy birthday, little girl.”

Surprise performance of U2 delights charity

U2 stars Bono and The Edge showed up unannounced and played as a warmup act at a charity concert in London. The show delighted the 250 people who attended the fundraiser night for Mencap, a charity that campaigns for equal rights for children and adults with learning disabilities.

“Don't tell Larry (Mullen) and Adam (Clayton) we've done this,” Bono joked about his other two band mates from the small stage at London's Union Chapel.
