U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer came to the Auburn Wastewater Treatment Plant with a promise of $500,000 to develop a new power source for the facility.
He spoke to 30 department heads, city employees, visiting politicians and city officials Monday afternoon at the plant, which he says needs upgrading.
Schumer also announced his support for a low-interest loan program, which Mayor Timothy Lattimore aims to use to refinance the millions previously borrowed for plant improvements, and a Water Quality Investment Act that would increase federal funding for maintenance and upgrades to municipal sewer infrastructures.
