Church selling tons of goodies, crafts
Unique crafts and homemade goodies will be sold from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the social room of the United Ministry of Aurora on Main Street in Aurora. Handmade stationery, glass objects, knit prayer shawls, home decorations and more as well as cookies, cakes and breads and coffee or tea will be available.
Historical society to discuss archives
Cayuga-Owasco Lakes Historical Society will host the exhibit, “Why Archives Are Important.” The exhibit will consist of four large panels with images that explore the meaning, use and preservation of archives and historical records. Images will include photographs and maps from various locations in New York state. This exhibition was developed by the Upstate History Alliance and has traveled extensively around the state.
The display will be on view to the public during Christmas in Moravia, with an Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at The History House, 14 W. Cayuga St., Moravia. For more information, call 497-1317.
Restaurant to host Christmas party
Ann's Restaurant at 113 Grant Ave., Auburn, will host a children's Christmas Party Dec. 1. It seeks donations to help fill a special Christmas grab bag with goodies. Santa will be there. Natasha Lathrop will be singing Christmas songs, and the Auburn Police Department will be taking fingerprints from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Each child will receive a hat and pair of gloves for winter. There will also be a holiday box set up at the restaurant for people to drop off stuffed animals to be donated to the emergency room at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Motorcycle club to host benefit dinner
The STAR Society, a local motorcycle club, will host a spaghetti dinner benefit for Kevin Doney, who underwent double bypass open heart surgery last month, from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Sennett Federated Church, located at the corners of Turnpike and Weedsport Sennett roads.
Doney will have a long recovery and therefore be forced to be out of work for several months. The benefit will help provide financial aid.
Cost for the dinner is $10, and children under 5 are free. Take out meals will be available. The benefit will also feature raffles, door prizes, bake sale, silent auction and music.
Red Cross searching for Real Heroes
The Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross wants a few Real Heroes to recognize at the Real Heroes Luncheon to be held Tuesday, March 18, at the Holiday Inn in Auburn.
Individuals who have risen above the crowd and stepped up to offer first aid or CPR or used an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) at an accident site or other emergency situation are Real Heroes. Nominations for a Real Hero 2008 may be submitted until Jan. 4, 2008. Forms are available at the chapter, 11 State St. or by e-mail to chapter@ccredcross.org.
