How much difference does a couple of feet make? Some residents along Main Street in Meridian are asking the state Department of Transportation to subtract two feet from each side of the proposed Route 370 redesign within village limits. DOT officials will meet with village residents to discuss concerns.

The road is, beyond question, in need of reconstruction. There are serious drainage problems, and in some places the sidewalks are badly in need of repair. So many aspects of the project -- curbing, improved drainage, upgrading existing sidewalks -- are seen as necessary and long-overdue changes.
