Cayuga County legislators, go ahead and repeal the gas sales tax and make it harder for us to make a living in Cayuga County. How about giving up all the perks that are making your pockets heavier?
City residents should be able to buy a sticker for $20 period. Issue a punch card that matches the sticker number with 52 spots to be punched out once a week --- first 200 pounds free.

I recently spent some time off from school playing monopoly with a few neighborhood kids and my own kids who are still young. The kids ranged in age from 6 to 14 years old and not one of them knew how to make change in their heads.

The Ways and Means Committee of the county Legislature stated that the gas tax cap hasn't helped lower gasoline prices - how ridiculous can they be? You can bet your bottom dollar, and that's about all you'll have left, if they end the tax cap, gasoline prices will increase.

I wonder if our new mayor-elect Mayor Quill will owe his allegiance to the workers in the city of Auburn that he spent many years with, or he will show his allegiance to the majority of city taxpayers. I believe taxes will go up considerably in the next four years.

Thanksgiving is over with, now is the beginning of the real holiday times with the time of what's called “Giving.” So let's dig into our pockets and help those that really need our help.

" Thank you APD for writing tickets this weekend. Some people think they are immune to the traffic laws by talking on the cell phone and not wearing seat belts. Perhaps now after getting a ticket they will remember the laws. Thanks again and keep up the good work. The only thing I wish is that you do this more often. "

" Speaking of The Citizen's online archive, whatever happened to the article on the unsuccessful lawsuit against the Auburn Doubledays? It wasn't 2 weeks old, but it has already disappeared and can't be found using the search function. Did someone fail to index it correctly? Sigh -- this system is always functioning sub-par. (Dear Santa, I'd love to have paragraphs for Christmas -- how 'bout it?) "

" Hey, Monopoly player -- a large number of those kids can't read or write either. The number of people reading for pleasure has dropped sharply as well. You need only look back through the archives of Two Cents to see how that lack of education translates to the adult population. Today's posters as the exception -- every one of them today seems to be able to read and write English! "

" Too bad the gas tax can't be applied only to those with truly gas-guzzling cars. If I were King of the World, I wouldn't allow any vehicle which averaged under 20 MPG on the highway without a special permit and a very good reason. My (non-hybrid) vehicle averages 42.3 MPG, but I have to commute (kid's school is here, but no jobs here nor decent affordable housing where the job is) -- so I'll get stuck along with those who waste. My car IS fuel efficient, and I put all my trips into town together and only go once a week or less, but I'll get stuck at the pump same as the jerk with an SUV, Hummer, Jeep, minivan or truck sucking fuel, spitting out pollution and getting only 10-12 MPG. Well, when the kid has graduated, I'll start looking for housing closer to work -- pity, because I have a very nice home for a very reasonable price right here in Cayuga County -- where government is constantly coming up with ways to drive more people and businesses away.... "

" Removing the cap on the gas tax is smart. It is a consumption tax that punishes those that waste energy by driving inefficient vehicles. The best way to save money on gas is not removing a gas tax, its reducing consumption. The gas cap saves you pennies while driving a more efficient vehicle will save you dollars in gas. I also say raise tobacco taxes and start taxing extremely unealthy food. The new taxes can be used to force those that are unhealthy by choice to pay a greater share of the rising health care costs. "

" I agree with that one. Removing the ceiling tax on gas isn't going to put a bandaid on any tax increase. I understand cost of living has to increase but our local government has made some serious costly errors that needed to be addressed and made public in detail. Fearon made it back in office by a mouse whisker and that is enough said on that other than he is a huge disappointment and will continue to be a huge disappointment. "

" We had a chance to get rid of Fearon and the rest of the useless incumbents. Unfortunately they were voted back in. When taxes increase, which they will, you only have yourselves to blame. These self serving morons, with their lifetime insurance and other perks, have never had the taxpayer in mind only themselves. Look at the houses for sale in this county, the taxes are outrageous. Now they want to raise gas taxes and make you believe that eliminatinating the ceiling on the tax will benefit you. Boy are they stupid or are you? "
