AUBURN - Every team has that one player that is the role model, and the team leader. For the Auburn Maroons girls lacrosse team that player is Flannery Nangle.
“There are so many words to describe Flannery,” said Amy Spin, Nangle's coach for three years. “She's an outstanding player on the field and a standout person off the field. She shows true dedication to the team and sport. She's a great role model for the young girls in the Auburn lacrosse organizations. She is just a perfect person to look up to.”

Nangle will attend Notre Dame next year and officially signed her letter of intent to play lacrosse for the Fighting Irish on Monday at Auburn High School. She chose Notre Dame over Colgate and William & Mary.

She was joined by her teammates and parents at the school's cafeteria. Spin said Nangle is a unique player and that you can pick her out of the field of players without knowing her number, she's just that good.

“The women's lacrosse team at Notre Dame just became my favorite team.” Spin said.

So why Notre Dame over the other two?

“Notre Dame just had that school spirit,” Nangle said. “It was undeniable and all the students there were just so happy and filled with school spirit. I loved everything about it.”

As for her education at Notre Dame, she is still undecided about what she will be studying, but her goals are fairly simple.

“I want to do very well in school and make a difference for the team in the few years to come at Notre Dame.” Nangle said.

Nangle is already looking at the long run stating she knows she has to work and eventually wants to make a big impact at Notre Dame for their lacrosse program.

At Notre Dame she expects to play either midfield or the attack position.

She will start in the summer at Notre Dame, and then she starts school as a freshman with games taking place a week later.

As for her decision process, well it wasn't her highlight.

“I started the process my junior year, and it wall all the way until fall,” she said. “I then went for my official visit to make my decision. It wasn't the most fun for me.”

Nangle said she was amazed by the campus itself as she went to Notre Dame for her official visit.

“The campus was absolutely gorgeous. Every student that I saw or spoke to loves it and I'm sure I will too.” Nangle said.

Notre Dame will travel to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse her freshman year.
