Chamber exhibits Longyear quilts
The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce will display several wall quilts made by Cheryl Longyear from Montezuma starting today.
Longyear began quilting in 1992 while working to coordinate a club quilt project for Cayuga County 4-H. She later joined the Thumbstall Quilt Guild in Marcellus, and later helped start new clubs at the Weedsport and Port Byron libraries.
Her quilts can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through December, Mondays through Fridays, in the chamber lobby, 36 South St. in Auburn.
The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce has provided an ongoing exhibit space for regional artists since 2000.
Individual artists and groups are encouraged to share their creative work with the public in 2008.

Historical society looks at Marshall
The Skaneateles Historical Society's November meeting will welcome Ted Lavery, who will present a program on Gen. James C. Marshall, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Creamery, 28 Hannum St., Skaneateles.
Marshall, a 1918 graduate of West Point, was an engineering genius, who directed projects all around New York state as well as in such places as Turkey, Africa and South Korea.
He played a central role in the Manhattan Project, which developed an atom bomb so that World War II could be brought to an end as soon as possible.
He retired from the Army in 1947 and moved to Skaneateles, where he served as mayor from 1967 to 1973. Both SAVES and the Austin Park skating rink were among the many improvements made to the village during his tenure.
All are welcome.
