Labor troubles in the General Motors' Fisher Body Division increased today when the Lansing local of the United Automobile Workers Union ordered a strike vote. General Motors officials said this newest labor trouble had idled 14,721 workers.

County property taxes will be going down with the 1998 budget. Tuesday the County Legislature cut the amount of money it will raise though next year's taxes by $73,000. In Auburn, the rate will go from $7.62 per $1,000 of a home's assessed value to $7.34. The rate will vary depending on the equalization rates applied to different towns and villages. In Auburn, a home valued at $50,000 will see its tax bill fall from this year's level of $375 to $367.

Since outdoor retailer Bass Pro Shops announced it will open a 70,000-square-foot store in the Fingerlakes Mall next fall, a potential deal to build a microd track across from the JC Penney Co. parking lot has run out of gas. Mall General Manager Gina Speno and track developer A.J. Burgess had both agreed to let Burgess lease or buy a 8.9-acre parcel behind the Aldi supermarket, but that deal depended on whether Bass Pro Shops would sign to move into the mall. Talks between the mall and Bass began four months ago.
