Not much money being spent on county inmates

Saturday, November 17, 2007 11:22 PM EST

I hear so much talk about the taxpayers money going to help the inmates in jails. It is unbelievable. So now I dare you, the taxpayers, to show me where this money is going.
When inmates first enter into the Cayuga County Jail, they receive two torn and tattered county orange issued uniforms, two old and used worn-out T-shirts, two used and stained pairs of underwear. If at all lucky, an inmate will receive a pair of used socks. But again, only if lucky.

Inmates also receive a bar of soap and a toothbrush. The soap not being costly due to it being made right here in our own Auburn Correctional Facility. The soap, you have to hope and pray you are here for a short stay, 'cause it might last. If no, you have to ask for a bar of soap and then you receive half a bar. If you have no help from the outside, you're in trouble.

A daily supply of nutrients is 2,500 calories daily, which we receive about half of in our three square meals a day. Especially when you receive goulash three times a week with little to no sauce and no meat in it.

So now I ask if it's not going toward clothes or hygiene, certainly not the food, can someone please tell me where the money from our friendly local taxpayers and our local and non-local federal and state prisons are going for housing all these inmates.

I see the local police are driving new motorcycles!

" really David did you honestly think someone would feel sorry for a person breaking the law and ending up in jail?? I am pleased to hear it is not all "peachy" and "comfy" in there! But if you choose to break the law then do it bigger so you can end up in Prison where you can get better meals, weekend overnighters with the girlfriend and the college education! "

" Wow. I am so sorry that this upstanding law abinding citizens have to live in such deplorable conditions. I pledge to you today, that I will make it my life's work to find a solution to this problem that plagues these fine individuals. But then, it came to me. The solution. Obey the law!! Just a simple three word statement that would solve the problems of these inamtes. Jail is not "Club Med". It a punishment not a vacation. There are families out there who would love to be able to have 3 meals a day, (even if it is goulash with a little sauce and no meat) clothes to wear and some hygiene products, but they don't because they chose to obey the law. Stop complaining. Put dowm the drugs/alcohol, stop stealing, harrassing, assualting, and whatever else they have been incarcerated for. "

" The inmates only get 3 meals a day? They are forced to wear used clothing? They recieve only one bar of soap and a toothbrush? This situation is horrible. As I sit here, writing this letter, I will make it my mission to solve this problem. "

" David Coff are you for real? Try getting a JOB. Do you really think anybody cares about you low lifes not getting the best while your in jail? there are so many honest people out here trying to scrape by day after day, and you have to wear torning jump suit, poor you and the other low lifes in jail. The only ones that feel sorry for you and the other inmates are the bleeding hearts, let them come cook for you, let them sew your tattered jump suits, let them bring a bar of soap to you. You got NERVE! "

" David, this breaks my heart to see criminals treated so inhumanely. We as law abiding citizens and taxpayers should insist on making sure you have a nice warm cozy cell and gourmet meals. We should also give you a gift certifacte to the mall so you can go pick out some nice clothes and socks to wear while you are incarcerated. I will continue to foloow the laws of society and pay my taxes so you can have all these nice things at your disposal while you serve time for a crime I'm sure you didn't commit. "
