Owasco to sponsor AARP driving class
The Town of Owasco is sponsoring an AARP driving class from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday Nov. 27 and 28 at the town hall on Bristol Avenue.
Participants are eligible for a 10 percent discount on a portion of their car insurance for three years, but drivers should check with their insurance company to find out if they participate.
The class is recommended for people 50 years and older and costs $10. To register, call 253-9021.
Police to enforce seat belt law
State police checkpoints and dedicated patrols will be focusing on enforcement of seat belt laws through Nov. 25 as part of the Buckle Up New York campaign.
The latest drive will include the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which kicks off a busy driving season.
Roughly one quarter of drivers and passengers killed in auto accidents last year were not wearing a seat belt.
Local troopers will conduct at least nine checkpoints during the Buckle Up New York enforcement sweep.
During the last campaign Memorial Day weekend, troopers, deputies and police officers staffed 1,117 checkpoints statewide and issued more than 35,000 citations.
