HIT: To students at Weedsport High School who put on an USO-style show for local veterans.
The combination of songs, music and jokes is a fitting tribute to those who served our country in times of need.
The students also get something out of their efforts, an understanding of the cost of freedom and an opportunity to learn about our nation's history from people who witnessed it first hand.

HIT: To the establishment of the Sarah E. Smith Scholarship. Smith was tragically killed in a bus-car accident last month on Route 20.
Since the Auburn High School student's passing, her classmates have held a poignant candlelight vigil at Hoopes Park and are now enacting a fitting tribute to their fallen classmate.
HIT: To the hiring of Robert Gauthier as the city's new treasurer. After the abrupt departure of Christopher DeProspero in September, it's good to see the position replaced.
City hall was hit by a number of open positions this year so this can only be a positive development for the city.
HIT: To former Auburn High School track standout Chris Mason, who won the National Junior College Athletic Association, Division III cross-country national championship last weekend in Long Island.
Mason, who is currently a freshman at SUNY Delhi, took the five-mile run in 27:08. The effort also earned him All-American honors.
