Thruway accident kills one, injures one
A Thruway collision killed one man and injured another Thursday night in Junius, Seneca County.
State police said Francis K. Hillen, 72, of 549 Klem Road, Webster, came to stop for unknown reasons while traveling west. Jeffrey W. Myers, 26, of 3049 Hunter Road, Scipio, hit the rear of Hillen's car with a cargo van he was driving.
Hillen was extricated from his vehicle by Magee Fire Department and transported to Geneva Hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 10 p.m. Myers was taken to Clifton Springs hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Westbound I-90 was closed to traffic for about three hours and reopened at 11:30 p.m., troopers said.
Donated food pays off library fees
People with library fines from the Seymour Library in Auburn will have the opportunity to pay off their fines while supporting a good cause.
The library's Food For Fines program allows patrons to donate non-perishable food items to the library in exchange for a waiver on fines. For every non-perishable food item that patrons donate between Nov. 15 and Nov. 20, $1 of their fine will be waived.
All library cardholders are eligible for the waiver.
The food items will be donated to local food banks in Auburn, Owasco and Sennett.
Patrons interested in participating are directed to speak to a staff member at the main desk to have their donation applied to their fine.

Holiday spirit to parade in streets
Auburn's downtown holiday parade will start at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24. The Auburn Public Theater will have family activities from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and a bonfire will be ablaze across from city hall at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Council meeting
to be rescheduled
The Auburn City Council has rescheduled its weekly meeting to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at city hall, 24 South St. The change is because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Subsequent meetings will be conducted at the normal time of 6 p.m. Thursdays, unless noted otherwise. However, the council will not meet on Thursday, Nov. 29, because it is the fifth Thursday of the month.
The next meeting after Tuesday's will be in December.
Firefighters aim to fill boot for MDA
Members of the Auburn Professional Fire Fighters Local 1446 will be stationed in front of Wal-Mart in Auburn today to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Fill the Boot campaign aims to net at least $3,500 while firefighters are out from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
MDA helps children and adults affected by any of more than 40 neuromuscular diseases. The International Association of Fire Fighters and the MDA have been partners nationally for more than 50 years.
County canceling flu shot clinics
The Cayuga County Health Department has canceled all flu shot clinics - including one scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 20, at First United Methodist Church - because it has used up all of the vaccine it had purchased and will not be receiving any more flu vaccine this season.
