A Syracuse man allegedly involved in a fatal boating accident on Skaneateles Lake pleaded not guilty Wednesday to various charges.
Craig Cordes, 32, appeared in Onondaga County Court for his arraignment after a grand jury had indicted him on charges of first-degree vehicular manslaughter, boating while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid in distress, reckless operation of a vessel and failure to yield right of way.
Officials allege that Cordes, a law student at the University of Arizona, was driving his motorboat drunk just before 2:30 a.m. on July 8 when it collided with another boat.
John Kelly, a 32-year-old police officer from Richmond, Va., and his girlfriend, Heather Wilkins, 26, also of Richmond, died as a result of the crash.
Cordes is free on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 28 for pre-trial reports.
