A Genoa woman was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine after police found chemicals used to make the drug in her truck following a traffic stop Tuesday, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.
Police said Melissa L. Brady, 46, of 8627 Route 90, Genoa, was spotted running a stop sign Tuesday night and then pulled into her yard when a patrol sergeant attempted to stop her.
The officer then found a plastic jug containing anhydrous ammonia that had been hidden inside a shop-vac-style vacuum cleaner, police said. After being exposed to fumes, the officer called for assistance, and deputies and detectives later found finished methamphetamine product and manufacturing and laboratory materials in Brady's vehicle and home.
She was charged with third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine; criminal possession of precursor methamphetamine; and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
