I thought the speed limit was 30 mph. These people on Grant Avenue are passing me when I'm going 30 or 32 - they're going at least 45.
Now that I'm a senior citizen and I remember Halloween back in the ‘50 and ‘60s - it was so much different then. It was really kind of a fun time for everyone.

With the price of gas going up, I wonder why I see all of the buses either local or country buses going around with little to no kids in them. I think it is a waste of our money, especially when our taxes are going up.

I'd like to know for us folks who have scanners, why we are having so much static on the scanner lately - what is going on? It sounds like squelch.

Sheriff Dave Gould: It's time to stop playing games and do the right thing. Put Lt. Jim Langler back to work where he belongs.

I thought it was the residents of Auburn who paid the wages to our city police department.

The people filing asbestos lawsuits against the taxpayers of Cayuga County are nothing but parasites. Some of these people are already millionaires and see an opportunity to become even wealthier, even though they suffered no harmful exposure.

I read your recent article about the Union Springs students cup-stacking challenge. I sure hope that this isn't my school tax dollars hard at work.

" SHEESH -- an exclamation "[e]xpressing exasperation, surprise, disapproval, etc.: ‘jeez!’, ‘good grief!’" -- from the Oxford English Dictionary. First recorded use in Oct 1959. Perfectly good American English, and appropriate for polite company. "

" Cities are disgusting, no thanks. I have a job -- hell of a good one too, one where I can put my many years experience and multiple advanced degrees to daily use. We contribute to the government in part (and in theory) for a safety net for us when honest, hard-working people fall on hard times temporarily -- but it isn't there, and that is a legitimate complaint. When the local government spends some modest amount of money getting our children safely to and from school, that is a GOOD use of the money we put into the government, and NOT something about which to complain. In this country, a basic education is a right, not a privilege -- it's one of the things that is good about America. Womanscorned -- I should be more careful about making general blanket statements -- of course there are circumstances under which it is quite reasonable for a parent to drive a child to school -- and yours is lucky you are home and have a car available so you are able to give him a ride. I was thinking of the many parents at Boynton Middle School in Ithaca where they sit parked in the road blocking traffic completely because the parking lot is already full and they don't care if they prevent any through traffic from passing for 15-20 minutes. Once in a while Ithaca sends a cop out there and it will clear up for a few weeks, but that was my point of reference for the spoiled brats comment. My apologies. "

" "forrest"--"SHEESH!" contains more wisdom and depth in one word than your whole post wastes in five-plus sentences of utter bitterness and callousness-of-heart! What a MISERABLE, shriveled old man you must be, to be so unwarrantably contemptuous and ignorantly all-inclusive towards CHILDREN--"CHILDREN", Smegmabreath, not "spoiled brats"! SHEESH! DOUBLE SHEESH! "

" Hey farmers gal, move in to the city, get a job, then you won't spend as much time writing your stupid comments to this web site. Usually your looking for the goverment to do somthing for you or give you somthing for free. As for the spoiled Brats you mention, their parents make sure they get to school safely and on time, there not looking for the goverment to do it for them. "SHEESH" A REAL INTELLIGENT WORD. "

" I have children who reside on Grant Ave and they are teens and its very dangerous for them to walk to their bus stop..now money spent on them getting to school could be used for individual pickups at homes but that would be a waste of taxpayers money...but instead they walk a block to save a little bit of money for bus service and it jepordizes their saftey...maybe taxpayers like you should take into consideration it could be your child or grandchild or family memeber walking along grant ave's broken up covered with trash sidewalks on trash days where the kids have to walk in the road on arterial...get real and realize these kids need our protection to survive! Just in front of my ex husbands house alone in the last year i have witnessed three bad auto accidents and one claimed a life...Note the SPEED IS 30 on all the arterial aka grant ave!!!!!Be smart and protect children like mine!!!PLEASE!!!!SLOW DOWN!!!! "

" Wow. Loving some of these comments. Newsflash!!! 32 in a 30 mph zone is still speeding. 32 or 45 both are breaking the law! And to the person who is paying cops salaries. How much do YOU contribute to YOUR own salary. After all, is it fair that city workers and cops that live in this city too should have to contribute to pay their own salary. They pay the same tax rates you do. Thanks for the chuckles. "

" In case you haven't realized the speed limit on Grant Ave is 30mph. That's the law, even though you do not agree with it, you must follow it, or get a ticket. But then again nobody gets a ticket these days in Auburn anyway. "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Nov 14, 2007 2:23 PM:

" I'd rather see money spent getting children in rural areas safely to school than a lot of other things on which the government wastes our money. The children out here are scattered far and wide, any many don't have parents available to drive them daily to school in a private car like some spoiled rich brat. No, you won't see many kids on the bus at the beginning and ending of each route -- that's just the nature of our geography and population -- but it's still wastes a lot less gas than each kid getting his or her own ride individually. Sheesh! "

Can't the kids have any fun anymore? What a good, safe way to have some fun. Then you come along and try to take all the fun away. Shame on you! "

" Ok ok how critical do we have to get with buses and tax payers moula? I honestly saw a bus yesterday take three turns that could have only taken one if the bus had gone a little further to the next street. That there is a waste of our tax payer money. Get real people. "
