" Cities are disgusting, no thanks. I have a job -- hell of a good one too, one where I can put my many years experience and multiple advanced degrees to daily use. We contribute to the government in part (and in theory) for a safety net for us when honest, hard-working people fall on hard times temporarily -- but it isn't there, and that is a legitimate complaint. When the local government spends some modest amount of money getting our children safely to and from school, that is a GOOD use of the money we put into the government, and NOT something about which to complain. In this country, a basic education is a right, not a privilege -- it's one of the things that is good about America. Womanscorned -- I should be more careful about making general blanket statements -- of course there are circumstances under which it is quite reasonable for a parent to drive a child to school -- and yours is lucky you are home and have a car available so you are able to give him a ride. I was thinking of the many parents at Boynton Middle School in Ithaca where they sit parked in the road blocking traffic completely because the parking lot is already full and they don't care if they prevent any through traffic from passing for 15-20 minutes. Once in a while Ithaca sends a cop out there and it will clear up for a few weeks, but that was my point of reference for the spoiled brats comment. My apologies. "
