The town of Owasco's tally is complete, with John J. Klink pulling ahead of Eleanor G. Beck to win the town supervisor election by five votes, 833 to 828. The Cayuga County Board of Elections finished counting the absentee ballots in that race Wednesday. The results still have to be certified.
With about half of the absentee ballots counted and 10 districts to go, Michael Quill was leading Tim Lattimore by 67 votes Wednesday in the race for mayor of Auburn.

At the close of business Wednesday Quill had 3,020 votes; Lattimore had 2,953; and David Dempsey had 730. Deputy elections commissioner Tom F. Prystal said he expected to complete the count for mayor by Thursday.

Absentee ballots for the town of Fleming have not been completed. On Election Night, Gary B. Searing was leading James E. Young by five votes in the town supervisor race there.

In Summerhill, where all town supervisor candidates are write-ins, Charles Ripley leads with 56, Kathy Irving has 49, Charles Shawgo, 2, and Sandra Morehouse, 1. Absentee ballots have not yet been counted in Summerhill.

" This is truly turning out to be an interesting race. I recall a local gadfly (also a former school board member) telling us that Mr. Dempsey would defeat Mr. Quill "handily" in the democratic primary. Well, that didn't seem to pan out. Then, shortly after the primary, the same gadfly (also a former city council candidate) stated it didn't matter that Mr. Dempsey lost because Mr. Lattimore would defeat Mr. Quill "handily" in the general election. Wow - whatever the outcome - I'm certainly glad that The Citizen didn't hire him on as their chief political correspondent :-) "
