Each Monday, The Citizen features someone from the Finger Lakes community.
This week, we spotlight Tammy Flaherty.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A. The customers are all nice.
Q.What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
A. Competing with online businesses and trying to get people to keep their tax dollars local.
Q. What would be your dream job, and in what part of the world would you be working?
A. I think I'm happy with what I'm doing where I am.
Q. What's the best way to relax after a tough day?
A. Just to sit at home with my family. Oh, and yoga, I just started it and I love it.
Q. What do you like most about living and/or working in the Finger Lakes region?
A. It's so beautiful here, just a beautiful part of the country.
Q. If you had the choice of meeting any three people in the world who would they be, and why?
A. Rita Wilson, because she's a second cousin of mine; the Dalai Lama, I love him because he's such a peaceful person; and Commissioner (Richard) Mills, who's in charge of New York state schools and I think they need a lot of work.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A. Still here in Auburn, still working.
Q. If you were to win the lottery tomorrow, what's the first thing you'd do?
A. Retire.
Q. What would people who think they know you be most surprised to find out about you?
A. That I like to talk.
Q. If you were mayor or supervisor of your town/city, what's the first thing you'd change?
A. I would promote Auburn as a whole and all its businesses, not just as two blocks on Genesee Street.
