Donate food for a good cause and remove your library fines at the same time. Seymour Library has found a way to help the hungry this holiday season, while also assisting library patrons with removing fines.
From Thursday, Nov. 15, through Friday, Nov. 30, all borrowers with fines are eligible for fine waivers. For every non-perishable food item donated, $1 of your fine will be waived from your library account.

We can accept donations for fines only, not for fees related to lost or missing library materials. We need you to pay those fees with cash so that we can replace the book or other item that is no longer in the library collection.

All donations will be divided evenly and given to several area food banks in Auburn, Owasco and Sennett. Just stop by the main desk at the library to drop off your donation of a non-perishable food item that has not expired, preferably in a can.

We cannot accept anything in glass containers or homemade food.

Suggestions for donations include peanut butter, soups, stews, chili, beans, baby food, nuts and canned fruits, vegetables, meats and tuna.

The library is accepting food for fines for a few reasons. First of all, we want you back.

We know that there are former library patrons out there who stopped using the library years ago because of fines.

We've still got 40 years of printed documents to prove it, but we want to clean up that data.

So, stock up with a few cans of food, stop in and start using the library again. We've got the most popular books available, magazines, recently released DVDs and audiobooks. Come see what you've been missing.

The second reason we are collecting food is to assist area food banks and, ultimately, to help needy families in the area.

If you have fines that do not total an entire dollar, that's OK.

We'll still accept your donation, and waive the fine that you do have.

And if you just want to donate food and don't have any fines, that's all right too. We'll gladly accept your donation and get it to a food bank.

Welcome to the beginning of the holiday season, a time for helping others who may be less fortunate, and for a time of renewal.

Perhaps it will be a time to revive your use of the Seymour Library.
