WATERTOWN - A 29-year-old woman was arraigned Wednesday on manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide charges stemming from a chase with police that ended in a fiery crash that killed her three children.
Lisa Parker was charged with 19 criminal counts, including three counts each of second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, first-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer and endangering the welfare of a child.
Parker, of Weedsport, who has been at University Hospital in Syracuse recovering from a crushed pelvis and other injuries, attended the arraignment in Jefferson County Court in a wheelchair.
She pleaded not guilty.
Judge Kim Martusewicz allowed Parker to remain free under the supervision of the county probation department so she can continue to attend physical therapy sessions three times a week.
Her next court date was scheduled for Dec. 18.
Parker and three of her children were headed on a camping trip to Cape Vincent on Lake Ontario in June. Her boyfriend was following about 20 minutes behind in another car with Parker's other child.
Deputies pulled her over for driving erratically on a county highway. As the deputy got out of his car, she sped off. The deputy chased Parker, but backed off after getting her license plate number.
Minutes later, Parker hit a utility pole, severing the pole and splitting the car in two. She was thrown from the car. The children - ages 2, 6 and 10 - died strapped in their seats inside the burning car. An autopsy found they died upon impact.
Parker was pregnant and her fetus did not survive.
According to the indictment, Parker had been driving with a suspended license. The indictment also said Parker was driving 85 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.
