Gold coins for Christmas presents are taboo by the government this year. An order has been issued that no coins will be distributed during the holiday for that purpose. The official decree explained that the Treasury Department felt it was necessary to conserve gold for war purposes.

A source close to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor said today the couple has decided tentatively on February as a possible new date for their postponed trip to the United States.

AUBURN - Following the count of 582 emergency ballots, the results of the city council race remains the same. Democrats Chuck Mason and Robert Hunter are still in the lead for the two open council seats. The emergency ballots were needed Tuesday morning because all voting machines in the city were programmed wrong and did not allow voters to chose certain combinations of the four candidates.

WATERLOO - A Seneca County grand jury is investigating a state Department of Motor Vehicles complaint against Cayuga County Legislator Jeff Blauvelt. Cayuga County DMV Supervisor John Neville was subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury.
