The Smith Opera House is taking a trip to the bottom of the ocean, where audiences will be invited along on this jaunt through life as a sea creature.
Giant puppets will dance, sing and teach children what it's like under the sea. Two nine-foot dragons and an astounding 40-foot blue whale will lead the performers of the Hudson Vagabond Puppets' show.

Based on an ancient Japanese folktale, schools of other underwater life, including a great white shark, and octopus, a blue crab, a suckerfish and lots of jelly fish, will share tales of what it is like to lead an everyday life as one of these creatures. The production teaches children oceanographic science and facts that mixes science with art for a uniquly facinating theatrical production, which meets the curriculumn for many schools.

The show is recommended for ages in kindergarten through third grade and is open to the public. There will be study guides available, and the entire show is packed with learning experienes.

Performed by the Hudson Vagabond Puppets, the company is a non-profit that creates larger-than-life puppetry and mask programs designed to fit into the school curriculum as well as to entertain children and their families, according to the company's Web site. The performers are professional dancers and actors. The Puppeteers borrow from the tradition of Japanese Bunraku style of puppetry, becoming mere shadows of the enormous figures they bring to life.
