Plenty of new faces will be joining the Cayuga Count Legislature in January.

David Axton (R, C), won the District 3 seat (Mentz, Montezuma and Throop) with 812 votes, against Thomas Weed (D), with 562.

Axton fills the unexpired term of the late Bernard Smith, who passed away last summer.

A factor in this race may have been Axton's enthusiasm to get public water service to residents of his district.

In the race for District 6 (Sennett and Owasco), Roger C. Mills (R, C), got 1,244 votes to beat out Terrence K. Lattimore (D), who received 1,074. Both candidates were proponents of bringing city, county and town governments together to economize by sharing services.

In District 12 (Auburn), Patrick Mahunik (D, C, I), received 823 votes to beat Thomas J. McKellop (R), who received 399.

Besides job creation, consolidation of services and clean water which both candidates proposed, Mahunik's tourism initiative to improve Emerson Park and the Owasco corridor were impressive.

In District 14 (Auburn district), Daniel P. Sincebaugh (D, I) got 733 votes, outpacing Michael V. Didio (R), with 466, to win the District 14 (Auburn) seat. Sincebaugh will replace the retiring Mike Lepak.

In the race for District 8 (Genoa, Locke and Venice) incumbent Francis Mitchell (R) won with 555 votes over Sjana McClure-Berry's (D, I) 227.

Mitchell had played up his expertise in financial record-keeping and his willingness to work to upgrade the county's software during his re-election campaign.

In uncontested races: District 2 will have a new representative, Michael H. Chapman (R,C), replacing Paul Dudley. District 4 incumbent Ann R. Petrus (R) retains her post.

In District 10, Peter Tortorici (R, C, I) also remains as the Legislator.
