Before getting into the extensive list of shows coming up in November, I want to congratulate Cayuga Community College's Bob Frame and his cast of five for their invitation to perform “The Miraculous Day Quartet” at this year's TANYS Festival. The work was part of the college's fall production of one act plays which closed last week.
Here's hoping they match last season's effort when they won directing and acting awards for their entry.
This year's TANYS Festival will be held Nov. 16, 17 and 18, at the Charles Woods Theatre in Glens Falls. For more information, contact Paul Hans Jr. at (518) 237-8929 or e-mail tanysregistrar@logical.net.
While you're waiting for that weekend in breathless anticipation, you may want to consider some regional offerings.
Stephen King's “Misery” ends its run this weekend at Syracuse Stage while Syracuse University Drama opens “Cat On a Hot Tin Roof” through Nov. 18. The two companies then join forces for “Fiddler On the Roof” from Nov. 29 through Dec. 30. For tickets and information on all three, call 443-3275.
Or you can head to the Spaghetti Warehouse in Syracuse for the final performance Thursday evening of Acme Mystery Company's “Death Joins the Club” (475-1807) or “Sleeping Beauty,” running through Dec. 29, by Magic Circle Children's Theater, Syracuse (449-3823).
Kitchen Theatre in Ithaca has Brian Dykstra's dark comedy, “Strangerhorse,” as well as Dykstra's one man show, “The Jesus Factor,” playing through this weekend. In addition, Kitchen has the Family Fare offering “The Adventure in Apartment G Sharp” at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday, and at 1 p.m. Sunday. Its Counter Culture series continues with “Media Madness” running at 8 p.m. Nov. 16 and 17, and at 4 p.m. Nov. 18. For tickets for any of these shows, call (607) 273-4497.
The Talent Company opens the musical “Footloose” this week at the New Times Theater at the New York State Fairgrounds. The play runs through Dec. 9. For tickets, call 479-SHOW.
“The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode” is not your parent's old TV show. In fact, only parents should go. The show is intended for mature audiences. Rarely Done Productions mounts the production from Nov.
29 through Dec. 15. Call 546-3224 for details.
Simply New Theatre presents Samuel Beckett's “Endgame” Nov. 16 through Dec. 2. Call 558-9124 for tickets and information. And, what the heck, let's dip into December. Opening at the John H. Mulroy Civic Center at Oncenter in Syracuse on Dec. 13 is “A Dickens of a Christmas,” which will be produced by Salt City Center for the Performing Arts in cooperation with Syracuse Civic Theatre under the title “A Christmas Carol.” Bob Brown will direct and play the role of Scrooge. Tickets for this production will be sold through the Syracuse Civic Theatre's box office. Call the box office at 409-9339.
That should keep you busy.
Play nice.
