HIT: To the arrival of Election Day.
It's been an active campaign season with candidates doing a great job getting their names and message out there, but it's probably safe to say that voters are ready to make their choices.
We urge everyone to make their voice heard in the voting booth, and we hope, win or lose, that all sides can find some common ground going forward.
And one more thing to everyone with a campaign sign on their property: please take it down within a reasonable time frame.
HIT: To the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center's “Quilts=Art=Quilts” exhibit returning for another year.
This show brings world-class quilts to Auburn, and judging from the reaction of people at the museum last weekend, this year's show does not disappoint.
The community should be grateful that Schweinfurth plays such a prominent role in advancing this unique form of art.
MISS: To a fatal accident in Skaneateles that took the life of a Weedsport resident last week.
State police are saying that alcohol may have played a role in the crash, and that the victim may have survived if he had been wearing a seat belt.
This case is another sad reminder that we can never take safety for granted on the roads.
MISS: To the people criticizing the Cayuga Home for Children casino night fundraiser held over the weekend.
A few observers have pointed to the event saying it sets a horrible example for children. Others have said it's hypocritical for a community to support an event like this, but oppose a full-scale casino that would be operated by an Indian nation.
These people are missing the point. There's a huge difference between a full-scale casino that profits off of addicted gamblers and a group of adults getting together to spend money on one evening's worth of entertainment as a means to raise funds for a local nonprofit.
