Bible verse from newspaper was taken out of context

Tuesday, November 6, 2007 11:19 AM EST

In the Saturday morning paper under The Citizens' Say, “Oa” sent a computer message quoting one sentence from Psalm 137 Verse 9. Boy, did he ever take that one sentence out of context.
God did not say that. Read a few chapters before that to understand what was meant.

" We agree then, Marilyn, the Bible isn't the word of God. How come so many folks claim it is? Just curious.... the parts in the Bible about killing folks that commit adultery.. Are those God's words or not? "

" How do you know what God said? Did you talk to him? Are you his friend and confidente? You only read what is in the bible which is open to interpretation from both the writers and readers. So unless you had a conversation with him, you don't know what he said either. "

" Just another example of how quoting Bible Scripture is an ridiculous exercise in subjective futility! I guarantee that four different people could read the same verse and get four different interpretations--and NONE of them would be mutually compatible! Put away your Bible and pick up a Farmer's Almanac, Marie--you'll get ten times the smarts, and none of the controversy! :) "
