Magazine staff to read at Wells College
Writers and editors from The Healing Muse magazine will be coming to Wells College for a group reading today.
The reading, held at 4:30 p.m. in the Art Exhibit Room in Macmillan Hall, Aurora, will feature Healing Muse editors Deirdre Neilen, Rebecca Garden and Nancy Schrehuer and writers from Ithaca, Binghamton and the Wells community.
The Healing Muse is an annual not-for profit journal of literary and visual arts published by SUNY Upstate Medical Center's Center for Bioethics and Humanities in Syracuse.
The journal features fiction, poetry, narratives, essays, memoirs and visual particularly from but not exclusively focusing on themes of medicine, illness, disability and healing.

Group asks for donations for troops
The Cayuga County Retired Teachers' Association's fall project is Packages for Platoons. This groups asks the community to donate items to send to our soldiers overseas.
Items requested are: cash or checks - made payable to CCRTA to purchase phone cards at reduced military rates; colored pencils with sharpeners (no crayons) and small toys to distribute to the Afghan children; powdered Gatorade drink mix and magazines, in good condition.
Please place items in bins, located at the sites listed below, or mail checks to: Pat Messina, 10 French Ave., Auburn, NY 13021.
Drop-off sites include: Paul's Barber Shop, 7402 Owasco Road and First Presbyterian Church, 112 South St., Auburn.
The first collection date is Veterans Day, Nov. 11. To learn more, contact Joan Haff at 253-2874.
Allen to discuss county's budget
The Cayuga County manager and organizers of an upcoming health awareness event will be featured on Cayuga Community College and Time Warner programming this week.
The next episodes of “Inside Government” and “Beyond the Front Page” with Guy Cosentino will air tonight on Channel 12.
Cayuga County Manager Wayne Allen will discuss the tentative 2008 budget on “Inside Government” at 7 p.m. “Heart and Soul” organizers Laura Coburn and Gwen Webber McLeod will be guests on “Beyond the Front Page” at 7:30 p.m.
Both shows will air in the same time slots Thursday on Channel 12.
