Natural remedies class to be offered
Rhonda Marr, licensed acupuncturist and botanical medicine practitioner, will offer a course on how to create all natural herbal remedies. This class consists of a combination of lecture, demonstration and hands-on participation.
Each participant will learn to create and take home: elderberry cough syrup, warming winter bath salts, an immune stimulant tincture and a soothing respiratory/chest balm. Additional herbal recipes, resources, instructions for preparing home herbal remedies and supplies for class preparation are included.
The class begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at The Center, 1 Hoffman St., Suite B, Auburn. The class fee is $45.

Workshop to address dementia
The Cayuga County Office for the Aging and the Alzheimer's Association of Central New York have teamed up to host the second annual Coping & Caring workshop, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Holiday Inn, 75 North St., Auburn.
Keynote speaker Dr. Saleem Ismail will lead an interactive workshop that will address how to diagnose, treat and manage difficult behaviors of dementia. Ismail is a senior instructor of psychiatry at the University of Rochester and is an investigator on several clinical trials in the program of neurobehavioral therapeutics. He has a special interest in the evaluation and treatment of dementia.

Local flu clinics open to community
The Cayuga County Health Department will hold flu clinics for adults ages 18 and older. No appointment is necessary, and there is no charge for people with Medicare Part B who bring their card. The department will bill Medicare Part B for the vaccine charges.
Those not covered under Medicare Part B will be charged $30 for a flu shot. Pneumococcal vaccines will be available for people with a doctor's prescription for $45.

Advocacy conference to be held in Auburn
The Self-Help and Advocacy Council of Central New York Inc. (SHAC) will host its 17th annual conference from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 16 and 17, at the Holiday Inn, 75 North St., Auburn.
The conference is for individuals who would like to learn about self-help and advocacy skill to help them on their road to recovery. Cost is $20, which includes all meals and an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn. Cost is kept reasonable so anyone who wishes to attend may do so.
