Illegal parking, illegal turns, illegal driving, etc. are restrictions set by the state to conform with the laws. Anyone who gets caught breaking these rules are subject to imposition of fines.
Illegal immigrants would be illegally existing in New York state without the proper entry documentation.
How is it possible that they would be able to receive a “legal” drivers license to drive. All of this to make our Empire State safer?
Anyone who crosses our U.S. border without the proper documents of immigration is illegally entering the country and jailed, and also returned to their original country.
The present proposal by our dear governor, Eliot Spitzer, to allow illegal immigrants to receive a New York state drivers license is very irresponsible.
As one of the many millions of “legal” immigrants who yearned to come to this beloved land, we had to be sponsored by a family member or friend of the family in order to live here and become a legal U.S. citizen. Any minor infractions would impede entering the U.S.
With the present proposal of Gov. Spitzer, New York state would facilitate a haven for many thousands of illegal entries into our state, not needing proper identifications to obtain the “illegal” driver's license.
An easy way to let criminals and terrorists enter and mix among the population. It would also create another heavy burden for the taxpayers, who probably will have to financially support another group through public assistance.
How can it be that the U.S. Homeland Security is constantly on the watch to keep illegal entries out of the country and Gov. Spitzer openly would allow illegal immigrants to obtain a New York state license, without any proper documentation.
I wonder if this idea is to create another way of funding extra money for the state, or would it be to eventually allow them to vote also.
I do hope that our state senators and assemblymen will strongly oppose this ridiculous idea.
Many thanks to our New York state Senator Michael Nozzolio, Assemblyman Gary Finch and the county clerks who are opposing Gov. Spitzer's proposal.
