Scott Garrett finished third out of 113 runners overall in the Section III, Class AA Cross Country Championship race at Jamesville Beach on Friday.
By finishing with a time of 15:54, the Auburn boys cross country runner will join Moravia's Jason Phillips at the New York State Meet at Norwood-Norfolk High School Nov. 10.
The two runners will be competing in different classes.
Also finishing for the seventh-place Maroons was Rob Culver in 32nd place (16:58), John Tehan in 35th (17:18), Pat Turner in 45th (17:28) and Chris Catino in 89th (18:27).
Weedsport junior Mike Greer also advances to states, finishing sixth (17:01) in Class D, which had 15 teams that were split into two. The Warriors, who finished second in Class D behind Beaver River, but won Class D-1 also saw John Bos finish 15th (17:41), Zack Field take 18th (17:50), Jim Bos place 21st (17:59) and Jordan Petrocci came in 22nd (10:00).
Jordan-Elbridge became the Class C-1 champions, finishing second in Class C. Senior Jeff Donohue (16:16) and sophomore Cody Stanton (16:26) will be advancing in states after placing first and second overall in Class C-1 and sixth and seventh overall. Mike Marerro came in 10th (16:37), Greg Bader was 29th (17:16) and Donato Direnzo came in 31st (17:18).
Skaneateles placed fourth in Class C-1, led by Sam Smolenski in 12th (16:41). Calvin Davis placed 19th (16:57), Matt Parker took 70th (18:36), Josh Youle was 90th (19:09) and Luke Edson came in 130th (21:07).
Cato-Meridian finished seventh in Class D. Joseph Mattice placed 12th (17:41), Thomas Klaben was 39th (19:00), Denzer Campbell took 57th (20:13), Carl Tausend came in 58th (20:16) and Lawrence Treasure took 66th (20:44).
In Class D, Port Byron finished incomplete, with only four runners. Christian Cobb came in 20th overall (17:53), Zac Leja was 93rd (21:15), Eric Urwin was 103rd (21:34) and Tyler Wellington finished 112th (22:07).
In the girls races, Weedsport's Alyssa O'Bryan came in fourth overall (20:24), which also qualified her for the states meet next weekend. The Warriors placed third overall and second in Class D-1. Freshman Michelle Donahue came in 23rd (21:55), Erin Daly took 25th (22:11), Ashley Edmunds took 26th (22:14) and Christi Quinn came in 27th (22:17).
While they didn't win Class C, Skaneateles picked up the Class C-1 title, though the Lakers do not move on to the state meet. Junior Rachel Hosie hurdled a couple of obstacles, but placed eighth overall (19:54), missing states by one place. Christina Homeyer finished in ninth (19:57), Kristin Roberts was 25th (20:40), Becky Flannigan came in 26th (20:43) and Alexis Mazzeo was 28th (20:51).
